This may be the 42nd year that the Aldworth Mummers have performed this ritual, and one of them is an original member! Traditionally Mumming plays were performed in villages throughout Britain at the end of the year and were a way of country folk obtaining a penny or two when work was in short supply. It was always done in a disguise of some sort and is broadly a story of death and rebirth.
